Unit 2 Legally Blonde Rehearsal 24/09

In this Legally Blonde rehearsal, we worked on Act 2 Scene 1, the interns going to the jail to meet Brooke Wyndham.

We started off discussing what each of our statuses would be in the beginning of the scene when we all walk in together. Because Callahan wasn't in this part of the scene we all decided that Emmet had the most power at the beginning of the scene because he holds the power over all the interns, because he is a licensed attorney and has a higher level of law education than the rest of the interns, he also holds power over Brooke because she is relying on him to get her out of jail.

We then decided that the person with the lowest status in this scene would be Elle because, from what the stage directions imply, she doesn't interact or speak to anybody from the beginning of the scene. She also doesn't know as much about law compared to the rest of the interns and Emmett especially. Brooke has a higher status than Elle because whilst Emmet ]holds the fact she needs him to get lout of prison, if the interns don't get information out of Brooke, they wont do well in Callahan's internship, causing her to have more power than them.

From this, we figured out the order of which everyone would walk on stage to Brooke, with Emmet at the front, Warner and Vivienne following together with Vivienne leading and Enid behind, with Elle being left at the back of everybody having to lean to get a glimpse of Brooke.

We chose to have Brooke seated in the middle and then, as everybody spoke directly to her, have everybody crowd round Brooke in a semi-circle, talking over her.

Moving on to where Elle is talking to Brooke we made sure that they were stood next to each other to make it clear to the audience that they both have the same amount of power in the scene and they both understood what each of them were saying. When we blocked the part where Brooke tells Elle about the liposuction, we wanted to make it comical with Brooke when she whispers then turns to scream, making it comical because it goes from her trying to be quiet to keep the secret to her screaming out and shocking Elle.

Unit 2 SMART targets

  Level 3 Performing Arts

Target Setting:

A close-up of a chart

Description automatically generated

Target 1: Technical Skills (1)

Why have you chosen this target? (Refer to audit, prior experience/lack of, feedback, etc)

S:  Improve my stamina in dance specifically. However this will impact my ability to perform dance and song numbers in Legally Blonde, especially in the number “What you want ”

M: Improving how efficiently I can perform a HIIT and charting first rehearsal of the number to final performance for what you want.

A:This will be attainable through my dance sessions and doing a 15 minute dance based HIIT in my own time, which is more dance based to make sure my stamina is being increased with dance activities so I can actively use it in these numbers.

R: because, as the lead role in legally blonde I have a lot of dance sequences, especially what you wantwhich is a 10 minute dance, acting and singing number finishing with a high impact dance routine led by my character Elle.

T: film myself in the first rehearsal of what you want then at the midpoint (around end of october) then at the end at my last legally blonde performance.

Target 2: Technical Skill (2)

Why have you chosen this target? (Refer to audit, prior experience/lack of, feedback, etc)

S: Improve my muscle memory in dance to be able to remember dance numbers easier. However, this will help in acting because it will help me remember my blocking easier and more efficiently.

M: Improving how efficiently I can pick up the dance numbers and see how I can jump into an already rehearsed seen without my written blocking and charting first rehearsal of one of the dance numbers in the show and then the last performance.

A: This will be attainable in Legally Blonde rehearsals and constant repetition at home and through my head throughout the day including looking at the rehearsal videos and copying.

R: because, as the lead role of Legally Blonde, I have a lot of dance numbers and scenes that I'm in that I need to remember the order and steps for, especially the 10-minute piece in the first act.

T: Film myself in the first rehearsal of my chosen dance number and then again at the midpoint of rehearsals then lastly at the last performance of legally blonde.

Target 3: Performance Skill

Why have you chosen this target? (Refer to audit, prior experience/lack of, feedback, etc)

S:  Improve my characterisation in song specifically because sometimes I struggle to work on characterisation when Im trying to focus on singing. However, this will help me improve my overall character in the show throughout the whole.

M: improving how my gestures and facial expressions throughout the songs in the show and general characterisation of Elle.

A: This will be attainable through all my acting sessions, where I will reflect on what my character would be thinking and feeling throughout each song and what facial expressions she would be presenting throughout, writing out exactly what the character will be feeling and thinking in each scene.

R: because, as the lead role, it is sometimes easy to forget about the little things that really make the character different from the others.

T: film myself in some of the songs and then film in the final performance and reflect on how my facial expressions and characterisation  has improved.

Target 4: Professionalism/Mental Skills

Why have you chosen this target? (Refer to audit, prior experience/lack of, feedback, etc)

S: Improve my confidence on stage so I can really project myself as the lead character of Elle. This will improve my overall performance in all sections.

M: Improving how nervous I get when I’m about to come onstage and stopping the clear nerves in the starting sections of my songs in the show. By charting my starting section in “Oh my God” in my first rehearsal and then again in the last performance of legally blonde.

A: This will be attainable through the constant Legally blonde rehearsals where we share with all the cast the scenes, we have been working on so we are performing in front of an audience from the very beginning. This will also be attainable because i will be doing postive affirmations and breathing techniques before all scenes. I will also practise in the mirror and film rehearsals to observe my bdy language and when i might be closing myself off instead of opening.

R: because, as the lead role, Elle is a very confident girl and I would like to embody that confidence so that I’m more worried about the specific skills I have to use in all the performing arts sections instead of nerves.

T: Film myself in the first rehearsal of “Oh my god” where I have to sing and compare it to the last performance to see how my body language, mannerisms and singing has improved.
